Nitmiluk Festival

On the 10th September, Jawoyn People celebrate a milestone in their modern history - 30 years since they regained ownership of Nitmiluk.

As the festival launches this week, Weave Films is proud to have worked with Jawoyn Association, Nitmiluk Tours, the Federal and Northern Territory Governments and other key stakeholders to spread the word about this important celebration.

The company's creative director Emma Masters returned to her communications, media and design roots to manage the festival's communications - including strategy, branding, digital content (web and social media), exhibition content, publications and media management.

"Ten years ago I was at the 20th celebrations of the handback of Nitmiluk as a broadcast journalist filing for television and radio," Ms Masters said.

"It was a memorable occassion and one that sparked a relationship with Jawoyn people and their association that lead to working together to celebrate the 30th anniversary a decade later.

"The anniversary is a significant occasion for the broader community to reflect on the successes of collaboration and reconciliation.

"So after much discussion, it was decided to make it the Nitmiluk Festival - a week long celebration of one of the shining jewels in the crown of the Northern Territory.

"An event that celebrates Nitmiluk, the wider Katherine region and community.

"We've pulled together a very special, dynamic and fun festival within a small time frame and budget - and we're particularly proud of the fact there are lots of free events for everyone to enjoy."

All the ticketed events have sold out - but there are many free events across the program.
